Naka no Shima, Akabane
Canon AE-1 Program
Two things to share—
First, check out ERIC’s work shot on the flooded streets of Thailand last year: LIVE WATER
He told me he bought a pair of wading pants just for the trip. I suppose they go well with a Mamiya 7. I’m impressed by his drive to do these personal projects on his own. I think this is his best work yet.
Second-
Back in 1982 Nobuyoshi Araki appeared in an amusing commercial for a furikake (rice topping) maker. It’s something that may help demonstrate the extent of his presence in Japanese popular culture and media. I think that’s a Pentax LX with a ring flash around his neck.
Fujifilm X-Pro1 lens adapters now available from Japan Exposures
With these adapters you’ll be able to mount just about any lens to an X-Pro1 body.
I recently replaced the standard non-slip jacuzzi floor tape leather cover on my MP with a new leatherette from Aki Asahi.
Aki Asahi is a small outfit in Nagoya that produces precisely cut leather covers for a wide variety of cameras, both film and digital. For my Leica I went with their #4008 leather as it is a close match to the vulcanite on the M3. Interestingly, it is almost exactly the same as the leather put on newer Leicas like the Titanium MP and M9.
Application is surprisingly easy and Aki Asahi provides several illustrated how-to guides on their site. The end result is quite impressive. If you’re interested, I blogged about my experience here.
Q: Will changing the leather on your camera make you a better photographer?
I haven’t developed any film since this doing this mod, but most likely no, it won’t.
Q: Well then, isn’t this simply a wasteful and utterly pointless exercise in gearhead vanity?
It admittedly matters most to the owner of the camera. But I bet that something as inoffensive as the slight customization of someone else’s photo gear shouldn’t rile any sane person up.
Q: Does it look pretty cool?
Oh heck yeah.
